    The Position

    H/L  Ventures seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and dedicated Platform Intern to join our team, working with and reporting directly to H/L’s Vice President of Platform. At H/L Ventures, Platform Internship activities touch a variety of areas, including but not limited to content/ writing, community building and events, as well as platform tools and a lot of research and careful data entry, which are absolutely essential activities to our process.

    The Platform Intern will be wearing many hats and will be helping to manage multiple projects.

    • The engagement of several distinct yet interconnected groups and communities (Portfolio Team, Founders, Venture Partners, Trusted Partner Network, Service Providers, among others), through in-person events. 
    • Tools, resources, and processes that guide these groups and communities, including portfolio management tools (we use AirTable), productivity management tools (our Portfolio Dashboard – also on AirTable), Founder Portal and Resources, surveys, intake forms, and more. This will require a detail-oriented mind and a commitment to precision and process.
    • Our visibility, including but not limited to managing and keeping updated our job board and talent network, managing our Founder Portal, keeping tabs on our website updates, and other projects on our roadmap, such as our newsletter.

    Examples of projects:

    • Design a newsletter for our Venture Partner and Founder communities.
    • Coordinate our Leaders in Venture dinner series and Founders Night series.
    • Help populate our database of Trusted Partner Resources for the Founder Portal (on AirTable).
    • Help launch and/ or maintain other founder-facing tools, surveys, systems, as needed.

    • Academically Qualified. Excellent academic performance;

    This role is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to get a holistic view of the role Platform plays in the VC and startup ecosystem, get educated on all aspects of VC firm processes, and actively contribute. The Platform Intern will have an opportunity to attend portfolio update calls, Venture Partner calls, and networking events, etc. This is a paid internship.

We have a robust portfolio of companies at various stages (pre-Seed to Series B) spanning such sectors as renewable energy, future of food, future of education, clean water, cybersecurity, sustainable fashion, data fusion, enterprise software, and more; the unifying factor being that all  are building at the nexus of impact, diversity, and non-concessionary revenues.

    This is a unique opportunity for our MBA Intern to work alongside the H/L Ventures team across the business and gain insight into and support the operational side of our businesses. This is a paid internship.

    We are a portfolio-centric firm with a laser focus on helping our companies grow.

    You will be conducting project-based value-add work for existing portfolio companies, including:

    • Market research;
    • Market sizing;
    • Competitive landscape analysis;
    • Financial modeling;

    • Please note that H/L maintains virtually daily contact with our portfolio companies, so it is expected that the MBA Intern will be able to dynamically support various portfolio company needs.

    The Position

    H/L seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, dedicated, and mature MBA Intern to join our family. This is a paid, part-time, project-based position. We are looking for a professional with a passion for venture capital, entrepreneurship, social impact, and working hands on with early-stage companies. The primary activities for the MBA Intern are to assist in H/L’s first line evaluation of start-ups, due diligence process, and support of existing portfolio companies. H/L is building a new model for venture, and our MBA Intern will be a crucial part of our team.

    Areas of responsibilities:

    • Conducting due diligence
    • Finanial modeling
    • Performing general market research
    • Reviewing: business plans, financial models, and other due diligence materials of potential candidate companies, including deal structure analysis, market sizing, and competitive landscape analysis
    • Taking part in phone screens and meetings during the due diligence process
    • Producing internal memos and diligence reports on candidate companies
    • Managing databases of opportunities and relevant relationships

    Portfolio Company Growth & Platform Activities

    • Taking part in regular calls/meetings with existing portfolio companies
    • Assisting in projects, analysis, and other value-add work for existing portfolio
      companies
